As it proclaims the power and love of the films, the program represents the kind of storytelling excess that blights series with too numerous episodes to fill. Throughout the show, we’re repeatedly told how The Godfather condenses the whole story of contemporary America into one book, one film. The Offer clearly lacks that exquisite ability to abbreviate and distil.
